The main condition that toric surface working have to satisfy is the constant and precise keeping of concentricity between two axes of tool and lens.. Till today this has required the realisation of machines which, used transmissions with precise mechanical constraints. Just for their nature the traditional systems were subjected to high slacks that, due to their wear, increased in the time. Moreover, during working of a toric surface, the contact between lens and tool is continuously stressed by an innate pitching that inclines to detach the two. This constant vibration is caused by the difference of thickness on the lens between axis of base and cylinder. So it is comprehensible as a part of working time was unproductive just for the non-contact between lens and tool.
